Cafeteria staff and students from Climate Solutions

QSI’s cafeteria workers received heartwarming letters and gifts from students of the Climate Solution class for working hard every day to provide care and nourishing food for all.

The cafeteria workers arrive around 6:45 a.m. every week to prepare for the school day. Marisol Valentin, a senior school-lunch aide/cook, is responsible for keeping everything in order. From cooking freshly made food with Cynthia M. Reyes, another school-lunch aide, and assistant cook, to cleaning the cafeteria before and after certain periods during the day until 4:15 p.m.

“I run my kitchen. I have a wonderful staff that helps me run the kitchen,” said Valentin, thankful to have a crew whom she can rely on. She also values how every one of the staff is diligent in their work.

The cafeteria staffers are mostly overlooked for they work behind the scenes within the school. The cards from Climate Solutions were deeply appreciated by the staff.

“Any little thing that the kids give [us] such as a card or a “Thank You” card- anything, it will always go up on our bulletin board in our office,” Valentin said.

The cafeteria workers were also very pleased to know that the Climate Solutions Class, Green team, and Bin Cops are addressing issues negatively impacting our planet, including plastic pollution.

“Very cool that the students are learning about plastic pollution and other issues and making positive changes to the school,” said Reyes. “Seeing this, I find it inspiring and great.” Both Valentin and Reyes strongly support these actions and hope that in the future more students will contribute and help out as well.
