Approximately 30 professionals from different fields came to share their work experiences with students during QSI’s annual Career Day, which was held in mid-May. Most of the presenters came from staff connections, alumni and parents of students.

According to Assistant Principal Krysten Malloy, the goal of the career fair was to give students an opportunity to explore a variety of career options, some that they might not see in their everyday lives, and learn what they needed to do “to succeed in a specific profession.”

We tried to have a diverse group of careers represented as best we could. However, we also recognize it was a big commitment to volunteer their time,” Malloy said.

Students were scheduled to attend four different stations and were encouraged to ask many questions throughout the presentations.

“I asked Ms. Zilelian what inspired her to become an author and if she encountered any challenges along the way. I found everyone very interesting and entertaining in their own way,” said sophomore Belinda Tabora.

Sophomore Emma Magda is interested in the medical field and was glad that one of the stations she got to go to was with Konstantinos Arhakis, the Administrative Director of the Department of Radiology at NYU Langone.

“The radiologist was very interesting and I would like to have another career day because it interests me to learn more about what you do for each career,” Magda said.

Freshman Hekai Tan thought hearing directly from people about their jobs gave him more information than he could get learning about the jobs in other ways.

“The most interesting thing I learned were the benefits that most jobs give you that you might be unaware about,” said Tan.
