The College and Career Readiness Center (CCRC) just got brand new tables, chairs, sofas and even a mini cafe.
The new wooden tables and whiteboard tables come with dry erase markers and an eraser which is very convenient. There are white cushioned chairs and a few green couches on the side of the room. This lets people work individually among themselves.
One of the highlights is the mini cafe, which has baskets filled with snacks and candy. There’s a coffee machine where the teachers or students can make themselves coffee or hot chocolate! I feel like this adds a nice touch to the whole room because it allows students to relax and study comfortably knowing that they are in a quiet and safe space, instead of sitting on the hard and dirty hallway floors with all the students loudly transitioning to their next class or even students with their friends, talking loudly in the hallway.
However, the snacks run out very fast and they don’t get refilled since there are many students who found out about this, and quickly want to go in and grab a bite before they head to their next class. I believe that students should respect the CCRC and save some snacks for the students who are actually going to work in the CCRC so they have available options for some snacks instead of nothing at all. To help this situation, we can create a sign to remind students to just have one snack or just leave the snacks for the students who are allowed in the CCRC.
Along with the new furniture, there are a bunch of new rules. These rules, which are strictly enforced, consist of letting the juniors and seniors be in this room at any time, though during seventh period they need appointments with teachers, but letting the freshmen and sophomores be in the room with a teacher only, and not ever during seventh period.
I believe that the freshmen and sophomores should also be allowed to freely go in and study on their own time and should have access to the CCRC. This year the new freshmen who might be struggling or adjusting with their new classes need extra help and guidance from their teachers. Also the sophomores should be chosen as a class that has access to the CCRC because this year the classes started to get more serious and require more work to complete.
Assistant Principal Stephanie Barnes confirmed that the CCRC was designed specifically for the juniors and seniors, and that freshmen and sophomores need to have an appointment with a teacher to enter. I believe that the freshmen and sophomores should be allowed to work and study in the CCRC without a teacher. I think this because many freshmen and sophomores either come to school early or have free periods where they need to study on various subjects.
Opening the CCRC to the freshmen and sophomore students would motivate them to study instead of getting distracted in the hallway and talking with their friends. I also think that it is a comfortable environment for them to get a lot of things done such as homework, assignments, projects and other work.
