With mixed reviews and seemingly no one entering, New Tokyo Sushi looked like an intriguing place to try out. It’s a take-out restaurant so there’s no seating, and the staff didn’t seem to be all that conversational, but in the end it’s all about the food, right? And the only other person who entered after us seemed to be a regular, so that was a good sign!
Tofu Roll:
Atchijah: 9/10 – The sweet honey flavor of the tofu with the soft avocado was an enjoyable experience as the flavors balanced each other out. The roll quickly melts in your mouth but still has the chewy texture of the fried tofu.
Taiba: 7/10 – I personally do not enjoy tofu in general but it was enjoyable in this roll. The fried tofu was soft and the avocado added extra flavor to the roll.
California Roll:
Atchijah: 7/10 – Pretty similar to all the other California rolls I’ve had but it was still good. It kind of reminded me of a more fresh version of the 7-Eleven California rolls.
Taiba: 8/10 – The california rolls were super juicy, the imitation crab was soft. The avocado and cucumber added extra taste to the roll. Would definitely try again.
Spicy Shrimp Roll:
Atchijah: 6.8/10 – If somebody bought me this I would eat it, but I don’t think I would buy this again on my own. It wasn’t really all that spicy but instead tangy. The texture was great, but the flavor wasn’t really there for me.
Taiba: 10/10 – The best spicy sushi roll I’ve ever had, with a great amount of shrimp in each roll which was mildly spicy and soft. I went to get it again a week later because it was so tasteful!
Takoyaki:
Atchijah: 7.2/10 – Once again, similar to other takoyaki I’ve had although the choice of plating with lettuce was interesting, but not that great. The takoyaki itself was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and the octopus bits were chewy. The kewpie mayo and bonito flakes helped elevate the umami flavor. However, the addition of more eel sauce would’ve helped.
Overall, New Tokyo Sushi is a great place to get sushi to go. They have a wide variety of rolls and other Japanese dishes and it’s all pretty good quality for the price you pay.

You should try Akino kings at Elmhurst Avenue right outside of the train station
