The Boys Soccer Team was led by senior Thomas Rendon, who was one of the team captains and a star player. This season, Rendon played center back on the field. Coach Jake Roche described him as a role model who is “passionate about the team,” and brings everyone together.
Q: When did you first start playing soccer?
A: Since I was little I would always play for fun.
Q: How long have you been on the soccer team?
A: I’ve been on the soccer team ever since the team was allowed to play after Covid, sophomore year.
Q: Having been on the soccer team for three years, what is the biggest lesson you have learned?
A: I’ve learned that team morale is crucial and a team has to feel like a family to succeed.
Q: As a team captain, how do you ensure that everyone gets along with each other?
A: I see everyone as a friend as well as a key part of the team. I try to bring them in if they feel left out.
Q: What’s the team environment like during practice sessions and games?
A: I believe it’s a very unified environment. We may get mad at each other, make jokes, get frustrated, but we still care for each other no matter what.
Q: What hobbies do you like to do besides soccer?
A: I play the drums with my band and I play tennis on the side.
Q: The team won against Epic High School North. What was the most challenging part of the match for you?
A: The most challenging part of the match for me personally was that it was my first game after a minor injury, so I had to keep up with the opposition. I pushed through even when my legs started to give in.
Q: Being down 1 goal at the end of the 1st half, how were you and your team able to take over and win?
A: Obviously we regrouped in half time and noticed what was bringing us down. But to be honest, we were able to take over and win due to pure will and spirit. Even though we were facing the team at the top of the league, nobody on the team was leaving without a win.
